Behaviour management

Last night on Twitter I discussed behaviour management, there are times when I feel like I am pulling out my hair with my class so when the Performance Management observation was due it was decided that perhaps behaviour management would be a good thing to look at.  I went into my lesson as normal, I do not believe in pulling out all the stops for observations as I like a true reflection on my teaching.  The outcome is this nothing is wrong with my behaviour management, nothing can be given for suggestions I have excellent behaviour management (currently). I think…More

Working in a team

I have thought long and hard about this post mainly because I do not want to seem to be moaning but I think I should reflect and see what others think. I really am finding working as part of a team as the hardest bit of my job, that is not to say I am not a team player, I just find working as part of a team to give children in the year group the same experiences hard.  The head of my school is really into every child having the same experience throughout a team and has been having…More

Countdown is on

The countdown to go back to school is on – I really do not know where the Summer has gone.  I am filled with dread, fear but overall excitement.  I have several things to do before I go back, some fun, some not so fun.  I did start the prep today with getting my hair cut this makes the reality of going back even more. Things I still need to do: A few labels to make for the classroom Get some new clothes Get a new pencil case Read through others planning for the first few weeks and get my…More

WordPress

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to attend some FREE training on WordPress and how to use it.  I owe a big thanks to @mikemcsharry who ran the session.  He talked all about blogging and why blog and how to blog and anything else you can think of to do with blogging.  Now I already have a blog (as you are reading it) but never really knew what I wanted to use it for.  I think for me now it is to try and become more reflective and share ideas with others but we will have to see. The major…More

Less lost

So another week done and dusted at my new school and only one till the holidays (so happy) and I can report I do feel less lost.  Things are not that different I suppose – teaching is teaching no matter where you are (well as long as you are in a place to teach).  There are some things that are still different but I suppose that I will get there. I do have to say that I am looking forward to a break – me time, time to reflect and adapt more.  I want to thank everyone for their support…More

Rose review

So it appears for now that on one hand the Rose Review has been cancelled but then on the other schools are continue doing what they do.  So once again schools are left in this land of limbo – we can’t not teach the little ones but if we do the ‘wrong’ thing and the big O comes in then we could be in trouble. So what are schools to do?  Well in my opinion we should continue what we do – at the end of the day as long as we are achieving the objectives then it should not…More

Smartboard 2

So being on the wonderful Twitter today @Showmyhomework posed the question: How many times have you seen an IWB being used only as a projector and what is the point………? The man has a huge point. In my current school we have 8 Smartboard’s in various classes out of 10. People fight to get into a class that has one, when given class choices people say things like ‘I don’t care as long as there is a Smartboard.’ We often go in and out of others classes to peer observe each other. Often we have to look at ICT use…More

Education City

Education City

Education City – Love it. This site has developed over the two years that my school has subscribed to it. It is a fantastic education site for lower and middle school and children with SEN further up the school. It does go all the way up to Year 6 (P7) but the feeling is there is a point where the games become to slow and the children further up the school do become bored with it. When we first got Education City we probably under used the resource I for one did! I would look at the games and trust…More
