Mrs NatSmartboard education, Good use
So being on the wonderful Twitter today @Showmyhomework posed the question: How many times have you seen an IWB being used only as a projector and what is the point………? The man has a huge point. In my current school we have 8 Smartboard’s in various classes out of 10. People fight to get into a class that has one, when given class choices people say things like ‘I don’t care as long as there is a Smartboard.’ We often go in and out of others classes to peer observe each other. Often we have to look at ICT use…More

Mrs NatEducation excellent, Online, paid
Ok so I am setting some time aside to do this because if I do not then it will never get done. So I first discovered this site on Twitter (@brainpop_uk) via someone else who had mentioned them so I thought I would follow them. I then went on and explored their site as much as possible on the ‘free’ bit (which is a good amount). I fell in love with the site and they where kind enough to let my school become a testing school for their product. All I had to do was carry out a test study…More

Mrs NatSEN DCD, dysprixia
A while a go I posted about a child in my class with severe dysprixia. I talked about how she was all right hand dominant (even picking up her pencil) but she wrote with her left hand. On the advice of the OT I have been slowly making her use her right hand. We have good days and bad days, there are days where she will point blank refuse (I don’t push) and there are days where she does it without prompting. I am so pleased she can now write (ok it is very messy) with her right hand. I…More

Mrs NatEducation education, Games based learning, ICT
Education City – Love it. This site has developed over the two years that my school has subscribed to it. It is a fantastic education site for lower and middle school and children with SEN further up the school. It does go all the way up to Year 6 (P7) but the feeling is there is a point where the games become to slow and the children further up the school do become bored with it. When we first got Education City we probably under used the resource I for one did! I would look at the games and trust…More

Mrs NatEducation Games based learning
Today I went on a course / selling pitch for www.mangahigh.com now it had been suggested by the head teacher but what I didn’t realise it was for Year 6 (P7) teachers and up. However I found it very interesting indeed. The first thing I will say it that you can set up a trial and have limited use of the site for free. However if there was spare money I think I would invest. There are lots of games covering a large percentage of the curriculum (I think he said 52% and growing). The licence (if you do decide…More

Mrs NatEducation annoyed
So I have been missing in action – this is mainly due to the fact that my life was put on hold with a job interview. It was over a week ago and only this morning did the rejection letter come in. Perhaps I am too sensitive or something but I have never been treated so badly in my entire life and it has really put me off moving and looking for a new job. I know not all schools will be like this and normally contact you straight after interview but overall the whole situation of job hunting is…More
