Behaviour management

Last night on Twitter I discussed behaviour management, there are times when I feel like I am pulling out my hair with my class so when the Performance Management observation was due it was decided that perhaps behaviour management would be a good thing to look at.  I went into my lesson as normal, I do not believe in pulling out all the stops for observations as I like a true reflection on my teaching.  The outcome is this nothing is wrong with my behaviour management, nothing can be given for suggestions I have excellent behaviour management (currently). I think…More

Typealyzer

@colport on Twitter put this link so I thought lets try it and here is what it said ISFP – The Artists The gentle and compassionate type. They are especially attuned their inner values and what other people need. They are not friends of many words and tend to take the worries of the world on their shoulders. They tend to follow the path of least resistance and have to look out not to be taken advantage of. They often prefer working quietly, behind the scene as a part of a team. They tend to value their friends and family…More

Working in a team

I have thought long and hard about this post mainly because I do not want to seem to be moaning but I think I should reflect and see what others think. I really am finding working as part of a team as the hardest bit of my job, that is not to say I am not a team player, I just find working as part of a team to give children in the year group the same experiences hard.  The head of my school is really into every child having the same experience throughout a team and has been having…More

So my blog has been neglected for almost a month now this is for two reasons:- I have been too to catch breath My hubs laptop broke so trying to get time with mine is like trying to breathe at work I think a little update is needed while I have breath and the hub is out for a bit so time with my laptop can be reclaimed.  I can only begin to tell you how busy I have been and therefore how tired I am.  I feel like I am an NQT all over again trying to learn what…More

Countdown is on

The countdown to go back to school is on – I really do not know where the Summer has gone.  I am filled with dread, fear but overall excitement.  I have several things to do before I go back, some fun, some not so fun.  I did start the prep today with getting my hair cut this makes the reality of going back even more. Things I still need to do: A few labels to make for the classroom Get some new clothes Get a new pencil case Read through others planning for the first few weeks and get my…More

My favourite ways to group children

All these ways that I group children have been taken from a fab course that I was on.  Now I know when I say what course there will be rolling of eyes by some that may stumble across the blog but I loved it.  The course was on co-operative learning and is what some may know as Kagan techniques.  If I took anything out of this course it was how to group children and how to get them working together properly.  Chris Ward who took the course also made the statement that in the classroom: Children should be talking 70%…More

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to attend some FREE training on WordPress and how to use it.  I owe a big thanks to @mikemcsharry who ran the session.  He talked all about blogging and why blog and how to blog and anything else you can think of to do with blogging.  Now I already have a blog (as you are reading it) but never really knew what I wanted to use it for.  I think for me now it is to try and become more reflective and share ideas with others but we will have to see. The major…More

Holidays/ work life balance

Holidays are the times of year I struggle with most.  I always look forward to them telling people ‘how many more getups’ it is till the holidays, I might go as far as being like a child at Christmas.  Now don’t get me wrong in all of this I love my job, love it – however by the time they come around I am usually so exhausted and drained from all that has gone on in the term that I am in need of my break. The holiday arrives and quite frankly it is nothing that I ever expect it…More
